National Portrait Gallery

Larry and I went to the city(DC) saturday -he showed me his work location and we went to a small Poruguese inspired cafe' that was really different and very delic! We noticed that the Verizon center(big sports venue) was just letting out from a Washington Capitals hockey game. So there were a lot of people out and about! Anyway, we walked another few blocks to the National Portrait Gallery where we spent about 4 hours and only saw about half of it. The gallery is the home of all the Presidents portraits and has a special exhibit as a tribute to Lincoln's second Innaugeral Ball which was held in that building.

Inside this doorway is the foyer that was the entrance to Lincoln's innaugeral ball. Inside this room is information about that day including box illustrations on the floor on the steps to do the waltz. Just in front of Larry out of the picture is the grand staircase where Lincoln and the guests walked up to the third floor ballroom. It was the second place we have walked, where Lincoln once walked.

This is a demonstration dance group that was practicing for their performance held in the courtyard. They did traditional dances that would have been part of the Innaugeral Ball.

Larry and his buddy - Henry Ford. The only thing missing is the F250 and a Ford cap.

As we were leaving the gallery, we were looking for a place to take a picture of both Larry and I and we saw 3 security guards in the lobby and asked about taking pictures. One of the security guards launched into the rules around the gallery about taking photographs.. then we said.. oh..no we meant take a picture of us. The security guards started laughing at the guy for giving us the picture lecture and the one in this picture promptly said.. Oh.no problem, I'll do it. We then went outside to stand in front of the sign .. only Larry and I looked at each other kind of funny, because the guard said, "How's this?" as he stands proudly next to the sign.. so we took one with Larry and one with me and made it part of our story.
