Last Saturday it was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the high 30's so we took off for Fort Belvoir. We thought we would check out the base and do some shopping. It's only about 25 min. from our place. But when we got there .. we had forgotten to bring our latest insurance card and the truck must have a pass to get on base. So, we thought.. hmm.. isn't Mt. Vernon nearby? Well, not just nearby.. but less than 5 miles. So, we headed there and took the entire afternoon touring the grounds and the mansion. It is really special and we will return often. There is much to see and do, a great little period restaurant and Inn.

It's cold.. ok, did I say it's cold! We are looking for drapes and anything we can do to help conserve energy in our little apartment! We are thankful for having gas heat, but still wary of how high the bills will be! Thought I would post some of the pics from when we were moving in, unpacking and settling in. I'll post some pics of the current condition in the next few days and then once we get a sofa or other furniture we will post some more and you can all see the progression of our east coast home. Love to all...

Gettysburg

Saturday Jan. 17th - Larry and I went on a day trip to Gettysburg. It was frigid with temps in the single digits but it was a beautiful drive and we did the auto tour around the 26 square mile battlefield and then walked to the monument where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address. We were in the first stages of frostbite.. but we still went and got the pic!

Welcome to our New Blog!

Hi Everyone,

Here is our new blog! Yes, it's true, we have decided to reach out through the bits and bytes of the internet to connect with all our friends and family. I am looking forward to posting our updates to this site instead of using the mass emails.



We are starting to get more familiar with the area and Larry has a 5 day weekend! WooHoo! One of the perks of a 9/80 schedule, a holdiay and an inaugeration all at the same time! He was being considered to work a special operation for the Inaugeration(sp?) to help staff the aid stations, but it didn't work out. All the roadways will be blocked and everyone who will be on the capital mall or in a location for the parade will either be getting there on shuttles, mass transit or walking. They do expect over 3 million people - so I think we will stay home!



Larry is on overload by the time he gets home. So much information to absorb in a very short period of time and well... my days are as usual.. on the phone and computer all day. We finally got the cable connected today so we can watch TV again. We are finding our way around town better now and Larry has established a routine on the bus and metro to and from work.
