One one of the weekends visiting churches we were in Centreville and after church came upon this old Civil War Hospital. It is called The Old Stone Church. Churches were often used in those days for hospitals and this was no different. Much of the structure is original including the stone walls, windows and door. A small Episcopal church now meets there and they told us about Centreville Days in the fall where all of the period buildings will be open, museums and historical areas have a day of celebration and rememberence.
A small memorial to the soldiers at the rear of the church.
The Old Stone Church served as a hospital for both sides. I know many soldiers died here and when you visit you can't help but think .. "we are walking where wounded and dieing soldiers were dragged, where they walked and where they died."
The original building entrance to the church.
